# Pregenerated Characters

*Rome DCCIV AUC, The Edge of the Republic, Rome and the provinces in 50 BC. Source: https://exodusnds.com/era-books/rome/pregenerated-characters*

Choose from seven characters in the Era Cast. Each follows the seven steps in Character Creation and Roles, spends 110 XP and begins in Rome in Ianuarius 50 BC, as the Starter Adventure opens. Two cast members stay with the GM. Papirius, the Subura boss, opposes the players (Adversaries). The book prints no sheet for Sulpicia, but players can build a Vestal Virgin.

A sheet carries no penalty for Origin or Role. Set the audience's response to a Gaul, freedman or enslaved physician in play, using Attitude (Era Rules, Patronage and Rank).

## Using the Pregenerated Characters

1. **Pick one.** Use the name on the sheet or choose one from Character Creation and Roles, Names.
2. **Check the ties.** Your sheet gives you two ties to other pregenerated characters and a tie to the world. If a tie names a character nobody chose, replace it.
3. **Build a new character for a different Origin or Role.** Use Character Creation and Roles and spend the full 110 XP from scratch.

### Reading a Sheet

- **Characteristics.** Might, Agility, Intellect, Savvy, Willpower, Charisma.
- **Pool.** Use the lower of characteristic and skill rank for Mastery Dice, then their difference for Ability Dice. Sheets abbreviate this as *2M 1A*: two Mastery Dice and one Ability Die . At skill rank 0, roll only Ability Dice, equal to the characteristic.
- **Derived values.** Wound Points are 10 + Might, Strain Points 10 + Willpower, Resistance half Might rounded up plus armor; Defenses start at 0 (Core Rules, Character Creation, Derived Values).
- **Initiative.** Savvy and Perception On Watch; Willpower and Readiness Surprised.
- **XP.** Every sheet spends exactly 110 XP at the costs in Character Creation and Roles: a characteristic to 3 costs 30 and to 4 costs 40; a profession skill costs 5 for rank 1 and 10 for rank 2, any other skill 10 and 15; a Tier 1 talent costs 5 and a Tier 2 talent 10, with one Tier 1 talent free. Tongues cost what Skills and Talents, Tongues sets.
- **Ordo, Standing and Dignitas.** Ordo is rank in law, Standing sets the Stake, and Dignitas adds Boon Dice to open social checks at 2 or more (Era Rules, Patronage and Rank).

## Sulpicia and Papirius

The GM plays Sulpicia Maxima. Find her at Vesta's hearth, where people lodge wills and treaties (Gods and Religion, The Vestal Virgins). To play a Vestal, build her in Character Creation and Roles. Allow one per table. For Papirius, use his stat block in Adversaries and his street in Rome, The Subura.

## Ties Among the Characters

Start with the Fabii. Fabia's father owns Chryseis and sponsors Banona. Fabia bought Bithys, her house sold him to Nerva, and Eros holds her note. Banona needs Septimius's testimony. He needs Eros's loan for the farm. Kallias waits beside Banona at the Senate and knows the king's debts as Eros does. With all seven, the Starter Adventure takes the party from the Fabii's morning greeting to Numa's villa near Capua, then back to the Senate. If nobody chooses Banona, the GM plays her and the party takes up her petition.
