The Armourer ยท Chapter 3

Wearing Armour

Putting It On

Armour Alone With help
Light (+0 or +1) 1 minute 1 minute
Medium (+2) 5 minutes 3 minutes
Heavy (+3) 20 minutes 10 minutes

Taking armour off takes half as long. A helm or a shield is a maneuver.

A character surprised in camp is unarmoured. The GM decides how much armour a character can reasonably be wearing in a town, at court, or at a dinner; an open helm and a mail shirt under a surcoat pass in most places, and a full harness passes in none.

Might, Noise, and Water

Cumbersome X on armour means the wearer needs Might X. A wearer with lower Might adds Bane Dice equal to the shortfall to every physical check.

Noise and bulk. Armour with Cumbersome adds its full rating as Bane Dice to Stealth checks, whatever the wearer's Might.

Swimming. Add the armour's Encumbrance as Bane Dice to checks to swim. Armour of Encumbrance 4 or more cannot be swum in at all.

Rest

A night's sleep in armour with Cumbersome gives no recovery of Strain.

Quality

Superior armour is made to measure by a master. It is 1 Encumbrance lighter and its Cumbersome rating is 1 lower. It does not add Resistance. It costs five times the listed price.

Inferior armour is damaged, ill-fitting, or badly made. Its Resistance bonus is 1 lower, to a minimum of 0. It costs half the listed price.

Damage and Repair

Sunder can damage armour: 1 Boon makes it Inferior until repaired, 2 Boons make it unusable.

Repairing damaged armour is an Average Craft check and an hour's work with tools. Repairing unusable armour is a Hard check and a day.

Fit

Armour of Resistance +2 or more is made for a body. Worn by someone of a notably different build, it is Inferior until a Craft check refits it. Full Plate cannot be refitted in the field.

Barding. Armour for a mount follows the same rules and is in The Stable, with its fit by body plan and size.
