The Stable

About This Book

Seventy-one mounts of land, air, and water: horses of ten kinds, camels and elephants, riding bears and raptor-runners, pegasi and wyverns, hippocampi and sea serpents, and the breeds of one whole world. With them: twelve kinds of barding and its fittings, nineteen pieces of tack, howdahs, and chariots.

A mount is a second character the rider is responsible for. It has its own Wounds, its own temper, and its own opinion about fire. This book gives every mount one stat line that says how big it is, how fast it goes, what it carries, and what armour it can wear, and one set of rules for riding it into a fight and getting it home.

This book stands alone. It supplies what the Exodus NDS core rules leave to a Universe: riding, mounted combat, flying and swimming mounts, training, upkeep, and barding. It is the companion to The Armourer for what the animal wears, and to The Fantasy Armory for what the rider carries. It requires only the core rules.

Animals in the Game

The animals in this book are game pieces in a story. Their numbers are simplified for play, and nothing here is advice on the keeping, riding, or training of any real animal.
