The Heavy Armory ยท Chapter 2
Reading an Entry
Most weapons in this book deal damage at vehicle scale and are printed like this.
Medium Gun
Saker, six-, nine-, and twelve-pounder, field gun
Standard 5 3 Long 5
3000 Military 1400 Ballistic Crew 5, Slow-Firing 2, Unreliable
The Fields
Mount is the size of the weapon: Light, Standard, Heavy, or Capital. It decides what can carry it.
Hull is the Hull Damage of one hit, at vehicle scale. Add 1 for each uncancelled Success, then subtract the target's Armor.
Crit is the number of net Boons spent to inflict a Critical Hit on a vehicle, or a Critical Injury on a person. A dash means the weapon cannot inflict one.
Range is the farthest band at which the weapon attacks. "Medium to Long" means it cannot attack closer than Medium. Placed means it is set in position and goes off later.
Crew is the number of people needed to work the weapon at its listed rate. A dash means it is fired by a vehicle's pilot or gunner alone.
From is the first year or period in which the weapon is found.
Type is the damage type: Ballistic, Blast, Fire, Crushing, or Thrusting.
Qualities are defined in Chapter 6.
Personal-Scale Crew Weapons
A few crew weapons are still personal-scale: the tripod machine gun, the mortar, the recoilless rifle. They are printed like a weapon from the other armories, with Damage, Crit, Range, and Enc, and their Skill is Gunnery. Chapter 4 says what they do to a vehicle.
Mounts
| Mount | Smallest hull | Typical carrier |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Scale 1 | A cart, a boat, an armoured car, a fighter aircraft |
| Standard | Scale 3 | A field carriage, a tank, a sloop, a destroyer, a strike aircraft |
| Heavy | Scale 4 | A siege carriage, a frigate, a cruiser, a heavy bomber |
| Capital | Scale 6 | A ship of the line's lower deck, a battleship, a railway mount |
Ground vehicles and carriages carry weapons as if they were one Scale larger. A Scale 3 tank mounts a Standard gun, and a Scale 2 armoured car a Light one.
A weapon on its own carriage needs no vehicle. It is moved by its crew, by animals, or by a tractor, and it has the Emplaced quality in action unless its entry says otherwise.
Oversized mounts. A vehicle may carry one weapon a single size above its limit, fixed to fire forward only. This is the tank destroyer and the gunboat.
Price and Availability
Price is for the weapon and its carriage or mount, without ammunition. It is in the units of the armory that covers the same period: Ancient entries on the scale of The Ranged Armory, Powder entries on that of The Black Powder Armory, and Industrial and Modern entries in present-day US dollars as in The Modern Armory.
Ammunition. Ten rounds for a gun cost one hundredth of the gun's price. A round for a weapon with Limited Ammo 4 or less costs one tenth of the weapon's price. Bombs, torpedoes, mines, and depth charges are priced each.
