Viridian Ship Catalog ยท Chapter 12

Compatibility

A mechanic can force almost any system into almost any hull. The difficulty depends on the relationship between the builders. This chapter gives Viridian's relationships and the modifier for each. The integration table is in the Vehicles Manual, Chapter 5, Builder Integration; installation checks are in Chapter 10, Installing a Module.

Viridian's Relationships

Maker Relationship Status
Viridian Lattice House Native
Antaean Openframe Partner Certified
Crown Meridian Open Adapted
Kharos Forge Rival Forced
Safa Celestial Arsenal Rival Forced
Illegal neural nets, stolen stack systems, unauthorized clone support Forbidden Forbidden

Installation Modifiers

Find the relationship, then apply its modifier to the base installation difficulty in the Vehicles Manual, Chapter 10. The same modifier applies to Craft checks to repair that system. Record the status on the ship sheet. A non-Viridian system installed in a Viridian hull also takes the Non-Native System Installation Bane Die (Chapter 4), which the last column adds.

Relationship Status Modifier With Non-Native System Installation
House (Viridian system, Viridian hull) Native None; a clean module installed by a yard needs no check None; the drawback applies only to non-Viridian systems
Partner (Openframe) Certified Add 1 Bane Die 2 Bane Dice in all
Open (Crown Meridian) Adapted Add 2 Bane Dice 3 Bane Dice in all
Rival (Kharos, Safa) Forced Upgrade 1 Trial Die to a Crisis Die and add 2 Bane Dice The same, with 1 Bane Die more
Forbidden Forbidden Upgrade 1 or 2 Trial Dice to Crisis Dice (GM's choice by severity) and add 2 Bane Dice The same, with 1 Bane Die more, and Authority Heat (high for stack, clone and neural systems)

A system installed damaged, rebuilt past its specification, or heavily modified is recorded as Forced whatever its relationship, and uses the Rival modifier. The Non-Native System Installation Bane Die does not apply to a Viridian component installed in another builder's hull; that hull then gets no Viridian Signature benefit from it either.

An imperfect installation can leave a lasting defect, a failure mode. When one applies, use the Mixed-Builder Failure Modes table for Partner, Open and Rival installations and the Military Failure Modes table for Military components: Vehicles Manual, Chapter 10, Mixed-Builder and Military Failure Modes.

Mixed Ships

Viridian systems in other hulls. A Viridian system keeps its Signature benefit in an Openframe hull, because Openframe is Viridian's Partner. In a Crown Meridian, Kharos or Safa hull it works as a Standard system, with no benefit and no penalty. The Viridian Field Repair drawback does not follow it there: drawbacks belong to the hull. A Viridian ship that takes in enough foreign systems to lose Integrated Architecture loses Viridian's once-per-encounter Boon Die with it (Chapter 4).

Other systems in Viridian hulls. A Crown Meridian system in a Viridian hull works as a Standard system: Crown and Viridian are Open, not Partners, so it does not bring Crown's Signature benefit. An Openframe system in a Viridian hull keeps its Openframe benefit. The Viridian benefits of the systems still native stay, and Viridian's Weak drawbacks stay with the hull.

Kharos and Safa. Viridian and Kharos are rivals, and so are Viridian and Safa. A Kharos engine or a Safa reactor in a Viridian hull is a Forced integration and works as a Standard system. Persistent Bane, Collateral Downgrade and Firmware Conflict are the likely failure modes. A Viridian Navigation Suite in a Kharos hull gains no benefit: the hull is neither Viridian nor a Partner of Viridian.

Forbidden systems. Illegal neural nets, stolen stack systems and unauthorized clone support are Forbidden aboard any Viridian hull. A Viridian ship carrying them loses Integrated Architecture at once (Chapter 4) and draws high Authority Heat.

Which Maker for the Hole in the Fleet

If the crew needs Look at
A freighter that carries and converts Openframe, Viridian's Partner
A ship that is hard to kill and easy to inspect Crown Meridian
A hull that is easy to patch in the field Kharos
A hull that outruns and outshoots Safa, at a price in integration
