Viridian Ship Catalog · Chapter 9

Continuity Cruisers

The largest hull the Concord lets a civilian institution fly, and the only one in this book that comes with its own law.

The VN-73 Line

Ring-and-Core hull in two revisions, VN-73C1 to VN-73C2. Scale 7, Civilian grade.

The VN-73 is the Concord's largest civilian hull: a mobile restoration clinic. Wards, stack vaults and a neural integration bay turn a Viridian ship into a place where a death is a managed inconvenience. Concord ministries, chartered institutes and licensed restoration houses buy it. Nobody else may.

Revision notes. VN-73C1. Two Expanded Medical Wards, two Quarantine Modules, three Stack-Preservation Vaults, Clone Transit Berths, a Neural Integration Bay, a Science Lab, an Extended Navigation Suite, Passenger Berths, a Shuttle Bay and a Workshop. Three slots are open. VN-73C2. One more ward pod on the ring and a larger power housing, for one more Module Slot and one more Power Capacity.

Common Variants. Mobile restoration clinic, Concord relief ship, Stack-recovery carrier, Charter hospital, Continuity vault carrier.

Restoration Aboard a VN-73

The VN-73 is the one hull in this book that is a legal question as much as a ship. Its stack vaults, Clone Transit Berths and Neural Integration Bay put the Shoiyan continuity law (the Concord's stack law) aboard. This section is the table's reference for what the law asks of the crew. The rules for the modules themselves are in the Vehicles Manual, Chapter 10 (Appendix: Module Catalog).

Who may own it. A VN-73 is Restricted. It is sold to Concord ministries, chartered institutes and licensed restoration houses; a private buyer needs a restoration license from the Concord. The Stack-Preservation Vault is Licensed, and Restricted outside Concord space. The Clone Transit Berths and the Neural Integration Bay are Restricted modules, and the Clone Transit Berths are illegal in Caliphate space.

Preservation. Each Stack-Preservation Vault stores up to 20 stacks. Add 1 Boon Die to preservation checks (Viridian Stack Vaults and Clone Support), and a second from Continuity Custody aboard a VN-73. The two come from different sources and both count. A stored stack is not lost to a single Critical Hit: the Critical Hit instead destroys the vault's outer seal and flags the pattern at once.

Restoration. Implanting or restoring a stack into a prepared body takes the Neural Integration Bay, one Hard Medicine check and one day (Vehicles Manual, Chapter 10). Add the same two Boon Dice as for preservation. A failure on a damaged cube is incomplete restoration, and the GM chooses a lasting effect from the stack canon: lost memory, altered response or a break from the original (Void Drifters setting material, Shoiyan Continuity Stacks).

The custody log. Every stack in and out of a vault is logged against a Concord register entry. The log is the paperwork. A restoration with no register entry is Unlawful Restoration; a second restoration of the same register entry is Illegal Duplication (the crimes are those of the Concord's stack law).

Authority Heat. A VN-73 in Concord space draws none for stacks it logs. Authority Heat is high for modified stack, clone or neural systems (Vehicles Manual, Chapter 5, Viridian). A modified vault, a neural net aboard, or a stack with no register entry is evidence (Vehicles Manual, Chapter 10, Authority Heat): a Serious infraction in a Concord port, and grounds to impound the ship in a port that does not recognize the license.

The custody seal. The Continuity Escrow Vault (Chapter 10) is the module a VN-73 uses to keep the log. A ship without one can still store stacks, but it has no custody record, and in a port that audits stacks that is the same as having no register.
