Openframe Ship Catalog ยท Chapter 11

Compatibility

A mechanic can force almost any system into almost any hull. The difficulty depends on the relationship between the hull's builder and the system's builder. This chapter gives Openframe's relationships and what each one costs. The one integration table for every builder is in the Vehicles Manual, Chapter Five, Builder Integration; the installation rules are in its Chapter Ten.

Openframe's Relationships

Builder Relationship Status on the Ship Sheet
Antaean Openframe House Native
Crown Meridian Partner Certified
Kharos Forge Partner Certified
Viridian Lattice Partner Certified
Safa Celestial Arsenal Open Adapted
License-bypassed corporate systems Forbidden Forbidden

Openframe has no Rival by default. The partnerships run both ways: Crown Meridian, Kharos and Viridian each list Openframe as a Partner. A specific yard, treaty or black-market specialist can change a relationship for one installation; the GM states the new relationship before the check.

Installation Modifiers

Apply the modifier to the base installation difficulty (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Ten, Installing a Module). The same modifier applies to Craft checks to repair that system (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Eleven).

Relationship Modifier
House (Openframe system, Openframe hull) None
Partner (Crown Meridian, Kharos, Viridian) Add 1 Bane Die
Open (Safa) Add 2 Bane Dice
Rival, or any system installed damaged, rebuilt past its specification, or heavily modified (Forced) Upgrade 1 Trial Die to a Crisis Die and add 2 Bane Dice
Forbidden Upgrade 1 or 2 Trial Dice to Crisis Dice (GM's choice by severity) and add 2 Bane Dice

The Mission Modules benefit (Chapter 4) removes 1 Bane Die from the installation check for a salvaged, illegal or incompatible module in an Openframe hull.

A successful installation does not always leave a clean system. When an installation fails or produces a complication, use the Vehicles Manual, Chapter Ten, Mixed-Builder and Military Failure Modes.

Mixed Ships

Openframe systems in other hulls. An Openframe system in a Crown Meridian, Kharos or Viridian hull is a Certified install, and it keeps its Openframe Signature benefit, because benefits follow the component into a Partner's hull. In a Safa hull it is Adapted and works as a Standard system. Either way the ship loses Integrated Architecture once more than 2 of its 12 core systems come from another builder (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Five, Integrated Architecture).

Other systems in Openframe hulls. An Openframe hull takes almost anything, and that is the point. A Crown Meridian damage control system in an Openframe hull is Certified and keeps its Crown Meridian benefit. A Safa reactor in an Openframe hull is Adapted and works as a Standard system. Openframe's Weak drawbacks belong to the hull and apply whoever built the installed system.

Licenses. A Licensed Openframe module in another builder's hull still needs its license. The module reports to the same exchanges.

License-bypassed systems. Stolen, cracked or license-stripped corporate systems are Forbidden aboard any hull. An Openframe ship carrying one raises Authority Heat at once, and a License Terminal (Chapter 9) flags it.
