Security Cruisers

The Cathedral Axis at its commercial ceiling, and the boundary between a Safa hull and a Directorate hull.

S7 Security Cruiser

A Cathedral Axis security cruiser in 3 versions: S7, S7.1, S7.2.

The S7 is a security cruiser, the Cathedral Axis at its commercial ceiling. A taller spine, a second tier of ribbed towers and a Reinforced Command Core make it a convoy lead, a security contractor's flagship and the anchor of a fleet. It is built to the Professional tier and sold only to institutions. It is not a Deliverer.

Builder Benefit (Safa). Full Signature benefits apply to a Safa system in a Safa hull: guided attacks add a Boon Die, point defense reads one higher, the reactor counts one higher for overload, and the security, electronic warfare and cyberdefense systems take their Bane Dice. Chapter 4 has the rules.

The Scale 7 boundary. The Deliverer is the Sacred Arsenal Directorate's own Military hull and is not for sale. The S7 is under it on every shared stat, buys no Deflection, mounts no Capital weapon and carries a defensive trait where the Deliverer carries a strike doctrine. The comparison is at the end of this chapter.

Model Trait: Convoy Cover (S7, S7.1, S7.2). Once per round, the cruiser's point defense may be used against a guided attack that hits another friendly ship at the same range band, as if the cruiser were the target. The cruiser pays the weapon's Heat and Power Load as usual.

Factory Packages. S7, S7.1 and S7.2: Reinforced Command Core, Internal Security Suite, Counterboarding Suite, Barracks Module x2, Armory, Electronic-Warfare Suite, Shuttle Bay (2 slots) x2, Damage Control Station, Medical Bay. Empty slots: 1.

Version notes. S7. The first version, with one slot open. Convoy Cover lets its point defense answer for a ship beside it. S7.1. Stepped armor plates over the lateral shoulders and a deeper armor collar at the base of the spine: one point of Armor, the Professional cap, and a System Point block. S7.2. One more closed Standard-mount cover on each shoulder and the central cargo gate sealed: two more hardpoint points and a System Point block, bought with the hold. A shipping house keeps the S7 or the S7.1.

Common Variants. Fleet flagship, Convoy lead, System defense cruiser, Contractor flagship, Pilgrim-convoy guardian.

The Scale 7 Boundary

The Sacred Arsenal Directorate's own Deliverer is also a Scale 7 Cathedral Axis hull, and a spacer who sees an S7 over a shrine station can be forgiven for taking it for one. They are not the same ship. The Deliverer is a Military hull, a sovereign vessel of the Caliphate that is never sold to a private buyer; the Vehicles Manual prints it with a Prize Value, the price a seller can extract for a captured one. The S7 is the Professional hull Safa sells by license to an institution on the Directorate's list.

The rules for the difference are plain, and the S7 stays on its side of every one.

  1. Tier. The S7 is built to the Professional tier. Its caps, its Heat Dissipation (6 against the Deliverer's 8) and its standard AI (an Advanced Directive AI, one step above the standard) all follow.
  2. Every shared stat is under the Deliverer's. Hull, System Points, Power, Heat Threshold, hardpoint points, Speed, Cruise and price are lower on every S7 version. Armor is equal on the S7.1 and S7.2, because 5 is the Professional cap at Scale 7.
  3. No screens. An S7 is built with Deflection 0 / 0. Screens are installed separately, as on any hull, and a Military Screen Array is Forbidden outside Caliphate service.
  4. No Military systems. The S7 carries a Licensed Electronic-Warfare Suite and Professional fire control. It has no Military reactor control, no Military Electronic-Warfare Suite and no Interdiction Module.
  5. No Capital mount, and a defensive trait. The heaviest S7 mount is Heavy. Its trait, Convoy Cover, answers for a ship beside it. The Deliverer's Arsenal Doctrine fires every weapon in an arc as one battery.
  6. A Safa name. The Caliphate's sovereign yards name hulls with sacred class-names; Safa numbers them. The S7 is never called a Deliverer.
  7. A registered holder. Safa sells a Scale 7 hull only to an institution: a state, a security contractor, a religious foundation or a corporate security department. The S7 is not an individual's ship at any price, and its Seal names its holder (Chapter 11).

At the table. A crew that meets an S7 meets a Professional hull with a Directorate-listed holder. A crew that meets a Deliverer meets the Caliphate's fleet. Give the first a name on a Seal and a lease or a charter behind it; the second has a Prize Value and a doctrine. A Deliverer that is lost, sold or captured is a Prize Claim and not a Safa sale (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Twelve).
