Safa Ship Catalog · Chapter 10

Signature Components

Components that only Safa and its Contractor Partners build. A Safa component is Native aboard a Safa hull, Adapted aboard an Openframe hull and Forced aboard a Crown Meridian, Kharos or Viridian hull. A Contractor Partner's component is Certified aboard a Safa hull. The Military grade of any Safa component is Forbidden outside Caliphate service (Chapter 12).

Reading a Component

Slots and Minimum Scale work as in the module catalog (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Ten, Appendix: Module Catalog). Cost is the component's multiplier on the base module price for the hull's Scale. The price is the Scale's base cost per slot, times Cost, times the Acquisition multiplier (Open ×1.0, Licensed ×1.6, Restricted ×2.5; Vehicles Manual, Chapter Twelve, Modules). Price at min Scale is that product for a hull of the component's minimum Scale (base 8,000cr at Scale 3, 15,000cr at Scale 4, 37,000cr at Scale 5); at a larger Scale use that Scale's base. The Arsenal Spine Mount is priced as a Standard mount at the Hardpoints price (21,000cr at Scale 3) plus one half. Acquisition is who may own it.

Safa Components

Reactor Regulator. Overload headroom. Once per encounter, when Power Load exceeds Power Capacity, the engineer may delay the overload response by one round; the ship gains 1 Heat when the delay ends. While Power Load is above Power Capacity, the ship's Signature Management checks add 1 Bane Die : the reactor blooms. The Military Regulator delays the response by two rounds and blooms harder, and is the canon Forbidden sample component.

Fire-Control Lattice. A guided-weapon fire control core. A guided attack against a target the ship has held under Target Lock since the previous round removes 1 Bane Die from the attack. It stacks with the Fire Control benefit (Chapter 4), which adds a Boon Die.

Point-Defense Spine. A hull-length network of point defense emitters. Add 1 to the Interception Rating of every point defense suite aboard. A Native Spine gains the Point Defense benefit (Chapter 4) on top, for a total of 2.

Counter-Intrusion Core. Cyberdefense hardware in a sealed rack. Electronic attacks against the ship's AI or networks add 1 Bane Die to the attacker's check, and the crew learns of any intrusion attempt at once. It stacks with the Cyberdefense benefit.

Pursuit Thruster Block. Maneuvering thrusters tuned for the chase. While the ship is pursuing, its Handling counts as 1 higher for chase and Disengage checks. It fits a Safa hull only; in any other hull it is an experimental installation.

Arsenal Spine Mount. The Standard mount structure the Talon carries (Chapter 5). It lets a Scale 3 hull carry one Standard weapon on a fixed spine, at the cost of all of its Module Slots. The weapon makes 1 less Heat when it fires (minimum 1). Aboard any hull but the Talon it is an experimental installation (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Ten), and only a Safa-certified yard services it. Price is a Standard mount at the Hardpoints price plus one half.

Radiator Crown Array. The deployable radiator vanes of the S13. It gives the ship the Radiator Bloom action (Chapter 7). Aboard any hull but the S13 line it is an experimental installation.

Certification Seal. The firmware-authentication and ownership device every Safa hull carries (Chapter 11). It has no slot and is sold only with a hull or as a replacement at the re-certification fee. A hull without a valid Seal is Gray Ownership.

Contractor Partner Components

A Contractor Partner (Malhan Builders, Yabrin Fleets, Karmin Line; Chapter 12) builds components that Safa certifies. They are Certified aboard a Safa hull: install at +1 Bane Die , with no extra die from Safa's Open Interfaces drawback when installed at the Partner's own certified yard. They do not gain a Safa Signature benefit. They count as Safa systems for Integrated Architecture (Chapter 4).

Hardened Cradle (Malhan Builders). An External Docking Cradle in armor. It carries one cradle-fitted craft of Scale 3 or smaller on a Scale 4 or larger host, inside the host's plating, so the craft is not part of the host's target profile while docked. Launch and recovery work as for any cradle (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Fifteen, Carried Craft). The S2, the Talon and the S17 are cradle-fitted. This is the one component that lets a Scale 4 hull carry a Scale 3 craft; the Vehicles Manual's External Docking Cradle needs a Scale 5 host for that.

Contract Hold Kit (Yabrin Fleets). A sealed hold built to Safa's manifest standard. It adds 2 cargo blocks. Cargo carried in it is outside the Cargo Flexibility drawback: no extra Average Craft check, no doubled port time and no manifest alert for what is loaded in it.

Pilgrim Berths (Yabrin Fleets). Passenger Berths built to Safa's discipline. They add 1 berth block with life support (Vehicles Manual, Chapter Ten, Passenger Berths). The Civilian Comfort drawback does not apply to the passengers berthed in them.

Transit Array (Karmin Line). A courier line's navigation and communications fit. It counts as an Extended Navigation Suite (seam-location and offset-exit checks add 1 Boon Die ; it does not stack with a fitted Extended Navigation Suite's die), and customs and transponder declaration checks at a Caliphate port add 1 Boon Die.

Military grades of Safa components (the Military Regulator, a Military fire control core) are Forbidden aboard any hull outside Caliphate service, and a Safa hull carrying one without the Directorate's authority fails authentication (Chapter 11).
